I've been retired since 1980 with Diego Garcia being my last duty station. I was in charge of overhead power from the plant to town along with the runway lights at the airport. I was there to replace the CE1 who was running the telephone exchange. I spent 18 months till my retirement.Spent 3 years from 1975 to 1978 at Edzell Scotland. Worked in the shop repairing washers/dryers and any problem in the housing area besides work on base. Great time, especially when my wife and I got to play a part in the play the town of Brechin put on called "Round about the Tower".
I'm probably one of a few Seabees who can wear the Dolphin pin as I was a Radioman and qualified aboard the USS John Marshall SSBN-611. I started aboard the USS Shangri-La CVA-38 both ships are now razor blades. Enjoyed the Bees the best.
I was a West coast Seabee being based out of Port Hueneme. I started in MCB-8 till that was disbanded, then was transferred to MCB-5. Made 3 deployments to Vietnam, went to Adak Alaska and built the Acey/Ducey club. It was a great life and don't regret it. I would do it all over again if needed. Smooth sailing shipmates. Jim

Minutemen, our Minuteman Brother Tim Rideout asked me a great question on Facebook that I have never been able to get an answer to, so I will put it out to our Brother Bees who were on those three deployments for an answer:Tim Rideout: Hey Norm, question for you. On the cd of 62's history there are no cruise books for 84-86. Is there no way to get these years? Just curious.
Norm Hahn: Hi Tim, that's a good question and one that has been asked ever since those three deployment cruise books were never published. I asked the Seabee Historical Foundation that same question years ago and they did not know why cruise books were not published during those three deployments either. It would be interesting if anyone from those three deployments would care to comment as to why cruisebooks were not published.
Anyone who can help out with an answer or an explanation please post it here. Thanks!

The 2017 April Gulfport All Seabee Reunion official reunion information has been confirmed. This is an idea of what will happen, based on past reunions:
The reunion kick-off cocktail hour starts late afternoon Thursday 27 April 2017 at the Ramada hotel.
The guided tours start from the hotel Friday and Saturday during the day. Island X-1, our hosts, will have a luau Friday night and the banquet on Saturday night, both at the hotel.
The banquet and other events are NOT formal dress.
Our NMCB 62 Minuteman Alumni WILL hold a short Battalion meeting at 11 am, SUNDAY, 30 April 2017 morning in the Mississippi Room (right across from the registration room).
At our Sunday meeting Secretary Norm will give a VERY short financial and membership report. Then each member will have the chance to stand up, introduce themself and their spouse and say a few words about their time in NMCB 62 and the Seabees. You do NOT have to be a current alumni group member to attend this meeting. However, you will be ineligible to win any of
our door prizes. We will also take individual, couples and group photos. After our meeting we all go to the picnic and have another wonderful meal and refreshments. At the 2016 Sunday picnic there were almost as many folks as attended the Saturday night banquet. Very cool! The food is outstanding.
After the picnic is over, we have been gathering around the pool- inner courtyard area for more great conversation and group photos. Bring a lawn chair. A great time!
Make plans to depart Gulfport on Monday, 1 May 2017.
Note: Island X-1 Gulfport will email reunion schedules and registration flyers to those who have attended prior reunions and have provided their name and email address to Glen Kellerman.
SO, if this is your first reunion and you need a email copy of the reunion schedule and the registrations form, email Glen Kellerman with your first and last name together with your email address. Note: Glen won't send you the schedule without you providing your first and last names because his list is based on names, not email addresses. Glen's email address is in Link 1 of this website. I can't publish it here.
Note: the Ramada hotel is only two stories high and fills up quickly. If you have mobility issues, stay on the 1st floor. There are no elevators. Tell them you are with the Seabee Reunion.

Ben Wray sends us all a reminder!Jul 2, 2016 at 10:07 AM
Today is NMCB 62's 50th Birthday.
13 men from Alpha Co, including the Company Chief collapsed from the heat while Senator Stennis rattled on.
Hooray for '62'.
