After many years of searching, I have finally been able to obtain a copy of the Notice of Separation for my father's brother, Christy Schweitzer. He survived Iwo Jima only to pass away in 1947. I now know that he was in the NMCB 62nd Battalion and part of the Assault Phase on Iwo Jima. I am the last of my generation and wish to find out as much as I can about the 62nd. Uncle Christy never married, so there are no children or grandchildren to remember him. Any leads to books or other documents that will help me learn more will be greatly appreciated. Thank you all.

Had a great time meeting me with my fellow "Seabees" at the April 2017 reunion. Plan on attending next year. This must be my year for reunions. Stayed with Joe Dixie, PN, and family in Cicero NY in June. "Diz" as we used to call him served with us in Danang 68, Dong Ha 69, and Danang 70. Roger Champine, Alpha Company Clerk, Danang 68 and Dong Ha 69. and his wife were also there. Roger lives in Louisiana so hopefully he can join us next year and meet up with that big group that attended from Alpha Company.

I was looking for Delos Oliver NMCB62 66-68 and ran across this: Delos L. (Ollie) Oliver died unexpectedly on January 8, 2011 after a brief illness. He is survived by his son, Shaun (Heather) Oliver; two daughters, Paige and Chiara Oliver; brother, Lee Rupert; grandchildren: Donovan, Miranda, Mitchell, Dylan, Gavin, Ava; niece and nephews, Mark and Todd Oliver, Jenna and John Rupert. He was predeceased by his parents, Orange and Virginia; one brother, Tony Oliver. Ollie retired from NYSEG, served in the U.S. Navy NMCB62 from 1966-70. He enjoyed his retirement by spending time working on his sawmill, spending time with his dog Rocket, friends and family. Ollie was a very generous man and touched the lives of many people. The garage was always open to all. A gathering in his honor will be held at Ollie's garage on Friday, January 14th, from 1 p.m. on. Arrangements are by Nichols Funeral Home, Whitney Point, NY.

The following is an edited email from Glen Kellerman, one of the honchos of Gulfport Seabee Island X-1 regarding our participation in their All Seabee Reunions:

You are more than welcome, Norm. Your leadership and effort to keep the '62 guys informed and united has been a big help to making our reunions successful.

When I looked in on your meeting Sunday, I was struck with the thought that '62 made up at least half or better of the total numbers participating in the reunion.

Be well, take care and have a great Seabee rest of the year. See you at the next reunion.

Glen

**The following reprinted with kind permission of Roman Hnatowski, the head honcho of the EA clan.***

Hope this finds all in Good Health and Happiness!

Also hope that all had a safe and uneventful trip home from Gulfport . This last Reunion (2017) was the single largest gathering of "EA"s from 62's 1st 3 Deployments and is unlikely to be duplicated again. An added treat was the large contingent of New England "EO"s from 62 and the H Company Ruiz brothers, Rich and Rocky, who always took care of all of us! Also learned that Rocky made all 4 of 62's Vietnam deployments; we rented the Battalion, I think Rocky owned it!

Just a recommendation for those that haven't been to the WWII Museum in New Orleans , visit. Those that retired with 20 or more years of active duty should also visit the Armed Forces Home in Gulfport - what a great facility!

Truly missed those of you that couldn't attend the Reunion , hope to see all of you again in the future. If there's anyone in need of anything we could offer, please reach out, your Brothers will be there someway, somehow!

I'll be updating the MCB 62 "EA" list in the near future, but until then, make the following pen and ink changes:

Donato "Danny" DeSantis' new email address -

William "W T" Kinney deceased as of 10 June 2013, arrangements unknown.

Please keep Sam "The Man" Roth in your prayers, he'll be going through an operation this Tuesday, the 16th. Sam looked darn good at the Reunion , I'm sure he'll look even better at the next one.

Hope some of you have had the chance to give Rawlins Riley a call (843) 441-2021. Truly hope he is out of the Hospital Rehab Center by now and recuperating well!

Thanks to Jim Catron and Larry Surber for their inputs and reminders used for this email, and to Jerry Hilbert for his great photos. Remember to send in any updates to your email, phone numbers and addresses to facilitate an accurate list.

Last, but not least, thanks to Norm Hahn for hosting our MCB 62 Reunion meeting and maintaining a great website, if you're not a member, please visit the site and join, he deserves our support!

That's about it for now.

Take Care and God Bless, your Brother, Roman.

I just received this email this morning:

Hello Norm,
Hope all is well with you these days. I look forward to seeing you at the reunion in Gulfport in a few days.
Best wishes, Jarvis Wood.

(Sec Norm comments) Jarvis Wood, EOCS, was in the Minutemen from June 69 to Dec 1970 for the 3rd and 4th Nam deployments. He was involved in both Dets Buford and Barracuda and was extremely well liked and respected by all hands. After he left 62 he became the 5th Master Chief of the Seabees, EQCM Jarvis Wood. It will be a great honor to see and talk to him during our reunion. He is a member of our alumni group and members can view his bio on our website database.

All right you Seabees,
The (2017) Gulfport Reunion is almost upon us. I know that some of you are not planning to attend this year's All Seabee reunion for whatever reason.

Your loss.

To those who are planning to attend, we'll make our own fun. And with that thought let me remind anyone who going to be in Gulfport and would like to play 18 holes get back to me ASAP. Ken Ulander has agreed to book tee times for all who want to play. But he must know right away.

This info was received by Gulfport All Seabee Reunion staff member Bob Smith, Sunday, 2 April 2017 regarding the reunion that NMCB 62 will be a part of.

"Norm,
The following events are full we can't sell anymore tickets:

The Seabee Base Tour
The Banquet
The Armed Forces Home Tour
The WWII Tour

(signed) Bob Smith" end of his email to me.

You can still come to our reunion, just not the above events. We, NMCB 62, will still have our annual meeting on Sunday morning, at 1030am at the Ramada Inn. Then after our meeting is the event final picnic. If anyone has any questions, give me a call on my cell: 715-379-8482.
