Looking for Asa Johnson or any one who may know how to get in touch with him. He served from 1972 - 1975 or 1976.

Thanks
Lonnie

I received this information on 13 Sep 2016 from "The Seabee News" the official publication of the Vietnam Era Seabees. The Vietnam Era Seabees sponsored the East Coast All Seabee Reunion for many years. Below is the actual newsletter column written by their president.

"President's Column:

It is with much sadness that I'm writing you, our members, to inform you that our organization, The Vietnam Era Seabees, is no longer going to be able to exist. We've tried more than once to invite members to join in running the organization but never did receive enough offerings to continue.

Unfortunately we've run our course and all good things must come to an end.

We want to thank all those who've been with us and all those who've been involved in running the VNES. We also thank all those who've attended our reunions. It was enjoyable to both hold the events and to attend them.

The Executive Board will be divvying up whatever there is left in the Grab Bag. Most will be donated to the Port Hueneme, CA and Davisville, RI Museums. Any liquid assets will be donated to Seabee related organizations such as the Seabee Memorial Scholarship Association and the Wounded Seabee Fund.

As stated above, it's something that we never wanted to see happen but we probably knew it was inevitable? We thank all those for the years of membership, involvement and contributions. We wish all the best of luck and we still hope to be able to cross paths with all in the future. Until we meet again ...

Construimus, Batuimus
President- Vietnam Era Seabees, Inc.
Bruce MacDougall (NMCB- 40 "C" Co., 1/67 - 7/69)".
END OF NEWSLETTER

We, the members of NMCB 62 will hold our 2017 annual reunion in Gulfport, Mississippi in April 2017. The Minutemen hold this reunion in conjunction with our good friends at Navy Seabee Veterans of America, Island X-1 Gulfport who sponsor the Gulfport ALL SEABEE reunion. See link # 1 of this website for more on that reunion. If anyone has any questions, please send me an email. I hope to see you at the April 2017 Gulfport reunion. Best regards, Can Do, Norm

NMCB 62 MAY 86-91 Contracted Lyme Disease in Camp Shelby on field maneuvers from ticks. Took Ten years to get service connection and thanks to doctor our battalion Dr. Daunis who wrote me a diagnosis letter after reviewing my labworks and remembering me as they couldn't figure out what was wrong he was so happy to learn what had happened. We had about 9 other guys with the same symptomology too. BTW I wasn't no sickbay commando like a few made out. I was Delta Company PO for 1 year and squad leader before that.

Now live in Kentucky on 100% pension VA paid me the largest back pay in its history after ten years of denial. Don't ever give up and never ever give in WE CAN DO!

Today is NMCB 62's 50th Birthday.

13 men from Alpha Co, including the Company Chief collapsed from the heat while Senator Stennis rattled on.

Hooray for '62'.

I've been retired since 1980 with Diego Garcia being my last duty station. I was in charge of overhead power from the plant to town along with the runway lights at the airport. I was there to replace the CE1 who was running the telephone exchange. I spent 18 months till my retirement.
Spent 3 years from 1975 to 1978 at Edzell Scotland. Worked in the shop repairing washers/dryers and any problem in the housing area besides work on base. Great time, especially when my wife and I got to play a part in the play the town of Brechin put on called "Round about the Tower".
I'm probably one of a few Seabees who can wear the Dolphin pin as I was a Radioman and qualified aboard the USS John Marshall SSBN-611. I started aboard the USS Shangri-La CVA-38 both ships are now razor blades. Enjoyed the Bees the best.
I was a West coast Seabee being based out of Port Hueneme. I started in MCB-8 till that was disbanded, then was transferred to MCB-5. Made 3 deployments to Vietnam, went to Adak Alaska and built the Acey/Ducey club. It was a great life and don't regret it. I would do it all over again if needed. Smooth sailing shipmates. Jim

Minutemen, our Minuteman Brother Tim Rideout asked me a great question on Facebook that I have never been able to get an answer to, so I will put it out to our Brother Bees who were on those three deployments for an answer:

Tim Rideout: Hey Norm, question for you. On the cd of 62's history there are no cruise books for 84-86. Is there no way to get these years? Just curious.

Norm Hahn: Hi Tim, that's a good question and one that has been asked ever since those three deployment cruise books were never published. I asked the Seabee Historical Foundation that same question years ago and they did not know why cruise books were not published during those three deployments either. It would be interesting if anyone from those three deployments would care to comment as to why cruisebooks were not published.

Anyone who can help out with an answer or an explanation please post it here. Thanks!
