Fellow Minutemen: with sadness I report to you the death of our Seabee Shipmate Dr. Gary F. Purdue, plank owner of NMCB 62.NMCB 62 Veterans and all Shipmates. Our Navy Seabee Brother, Gary Purdue, has died under terrible circumstances. He was a Plank Owner of NMCB 62, an MR2 in A Co. and did the first two tours with the Minutemen Battalion in Vietnam. After leaving the Navy he went back to college and became a Medical Doctor and served for many years with great distinction.
We all offer his family our deepest condolences and wish our Brother Gary Fair Winds and Following Seas. May he Rest in Peace.
(This email received from Ian Purdue, Gary's Son) Mr. Hahn,
It is with great regret that I would like to inform you and fellow alumni of NMCB 62 of the death of my father, Dr. Gary F. Purdue. He was killed by a drunk driver on Oct 3, 2010 who ran a stop sign at 0720hrs. Gary was on his way to do patient rounds at Parkland Hospital on his motorcycle when he was struck and killed on impact. My father has always been proud of his service to his country as a Seabee and we wanted to let his fellows know. Below I have attached a copy of his obituary.
Thank you. If you would like any additional information please feel free to contact me.
Ian Purdue
