I served in NMCB-62 as S-1A (Personnel Officer) from April 1980 through April 1983. Deployed to Camp Moscript, Puerto Rico in 1980 where we built Cuban/Haitian Refugee Resettlement Center and then made the final full Battalion deployment to Diego Garcia to close that construction effort in 1982. Thought I knew every way that a sailor could get into trouble until Diego Garcia! My claim to fame was serving at the pleasure of Ole L. Olsen, and surviving it! Also served as PAO putting together both of these Cruisebooks. Had a great crew and lots of fond memories. Three of our personnel office gents made LDO/CWO (LCDR Leonard Treadway, LCDR Richard Green, and CWO4 Jeffrey Barone). Jeff just retired last month as a Navy Seal with 30 years of honorable service. I retired as a CWO4 in 1989 after living in New Orleans for 14 years! I hope to attend the 2012 reunion.

My granduncle was Daniel B. Mulholland who served as a Yeoman 1C in HQ Company of the 62nd during WWII. He lied about his age (he was born in 1895!) in order to enlist - interestingly, he had also served with the Navy during WWI. After coming back from the Pacific in 1945 he started working for the Veterans Administration (VA) as a "Quartermaster" at the Minnesota Soldiers Home. He died in 1965 and is buried in Snelling National Cemetery. I have some photos of him during WWII.
