Jery Lawson was my son's father in law, Clint is back on deployment but will be returning some time next month; if you would like to contact him post it on the grapevine and have Normand send it to me. I will not reply to emails because I caused Normand to get a virus and do not want to cause him more problems.

Fellow Minutemen:

I have received emails from NMCB 62 member Mark Sholtes, SWCS, USN, Retired, that his friend CEC Jerry Lawson, USN, Retired, also a former NMCB 62 Minuteman has passed away.

I have edited the emails:

It is with a very heavy heart that I announce the death of CEC Jerry Lawson, USN (Ret). A Very Good Man taken way too early.... He is survived by four wonderful children, many grand children and several great grand children. Services will be held in Plant City Florida at a time and place to be determined. Email me for more detailed information.

Jerry was in 62 from 79-83, left before the Diego Deployment, went to NCTC and retired from there. He made the 81 Rico Deployment but I don't think he went to Guam because of a medical condition. I tried to get him to join the site but he wasn't much of a computer person...

(Part of an email:)
Jerry Paul Lawson, I wish I knew more about his service but I don't. When he was in 62 with me, he was the Bravo Shops Chief for the Rico deployment. I have not seen him in any of the cruise books. He left 62 and was an instructor at the CE "A" school. I remember he was teaching a class once, reached up on a shelf to get a training aid, caught his wedding ring on the shelf which pulled off his finger in front of the entire class. If you know any NCTC types they could probably elaborate on that.

I (Mark Sholtes) am no longer in Biloxi, now in P'cola and will probably come to the reunion this year.

Minutemen Shipmates,
I have received this email from retired EAC Roman Hnitowski regarding the passing of our Seabee Brother Richard E. Weber.
I have edited it for this guestbook.
Sent: Thursday, April 26, 2012 9:57 PM Subject: EAS3 Richard E. Weber
It is with much sadness that I inform everyone on the passing of EAS3 Richard E. Weber.
Dick served with us in NMCB 62 at Phu Bai on the 66-67 deployment. He was a great friend, great Seabee, and most of all, our Brother.
We've search for Dick for almost a decade since Frank suggested that we try and locate one-another before its' too late.
Just today, April 26, 2012, Jerry Hilbert put everything we've collected together and discovered Dick Weber was killed in a car accident in Bradenton, FL., in May 1985, and buried at the Butler County Memorial Park, Hamilton, OH.
I will miss not seeing Dick at one of our reunions, not experiencing one of his infectious laughs,
seeing once more his beaming smile, and most of all, the pleasure of his company.
Please keep Rich Weber and his family in your prayers and remember him for the gentleman he was.
God bless Dick Weber and his family. V/r, Roman

21 April 2012. This info taken from an email by CAPT Jim George, USNR, Retired, to me. In 73-74 he was the LTjg OIC of the Det Adak detail while the main body was on Guam.

"You asked me some time back to send you the names of the guys who served on Detail Adak during our Pacific deployment 1973-1974. BUC Othel Riddle was our AOIC for Detail Adak. If you are not aware, Othel died about 10 years ago. He was so important to me and to all the men of Detail Adak. His wife, Loraine was still living in Long Beach, MS near the NCBC Gulfport when I last talked with her about a year ago. I would like for the men of Detail Adak (as well as all who made the Diego Garcia deployment of 1972-73 where Othel also deployed) to know of Othel's death.
By the way, I did hear from Joe Tack. It was great hearing from him. I hope to see him, you and others when I am able to make a reunion."

For alumni group members,CAPT George's email address is on the alumni group list. He will join the alumni group.

For non-members, send me an email and I will give you his address.
