Got to Gulfport on Aug. 17th and survived Hurricane Camile That came along the 19th. Got to the Battalion in Sept. I did two tours with "62" Apr. 70 thru Nov.70 Then on to Cuba to build the new EM club. Served under Bboth JPJones Jr and Frank Newcomb the latter was great, sorry to hear he died. Have wonderful memories of all my service time, having met lots of great people and would like to hear from them again. I retired in 2000 from General Motors after 36 years split between Saginaw, Mi. and Spring Hill, Tn. Saturn plantSubmitted by: Ravis (Ray) Stotts

I served two tours with NMCB 62: April '66 to June '68 and Feb '82 to June '84. Helped to re-open Gulfport Seabee Base; made the tours to Phu Bai and Red Beach; caught about half the '82 deployment to Diego Garcia and the full deployment to Guam. Retired E-7 (CEC) June '64.Submitted by: Mark Sholtes

Served in '62 from 1968 to 1972. Yup, I worked for the detested John Paul Jones, Jr. Hell on wheels. Also worked for CDR. Frank Newcomb. Sorry to hear he died.My first deployment was to Dong Ha. Went to Vandergrift combat base, the Rock Pile, Witches Tit, Vin Diah, bridge 9-12 and Quang Tri.
Second deployment was to Danang. Spent all of my time on dets. Was one of the "Hill-55 Boys." Drove an A-Car up there. Got dinged there. Also was at LZ Baldy. We had an alcoholic three-legged dog we called Tripod. He loved rum & coke. We would get him drunk every day. Our monkey would steal your drink when you left the hut to take a leak. One night, we had a Marine Warrent Officer who had his drink stolen by the monkey. He pulled out his 45 and killed the monkey. He told me, "You can screw my wife, steal my money, but leave my Scotch and Water alone!" I threw the dead monkey out in the woods. No hard feelings. The little beast was Beeped-Over from MCB-3, and we didn't like him anyhow.
No hats, no shirts, and no bloused trousers!
Anybody ot here know (EO3) "Duck" Welch or EOC Jimmy Swafford?

I was a fleet sailor who did a tour of duty with NMCB-62 87-89 I was one hell of a good tour of duty. I went to Rota, Guam, and Det Subic. I also decommissioned it. I really enjoyed my time in the Bees'.
